Spokesperson and former Powell River Skating Club president Barb Klippenstein said it's been a good start to the season for the skaters.

"We had nine competitors go to our first competition November 16 and 17 in Campbell River," said Klippenstein. "You could tell they felt very confident with their new competition jackets, generously provided by Oceanside Entertainment."

Klippenstein said the next competition will be in Duncan from January 31 to February 2.

"We are all grateful to club coach Shayla Sarton for putting this all together; it takes a lot of preparation," said Klippenstein.

Synchronized skating coach Sheila Paquette has been getting the synchro-team together and practicing for its next competition in Richmond in January. Klippenstein said it's tough work to get a whole team working in unison.

"They have been consistently moving up in standings," she added.

Powell River Skating Club figure skating competition results for the Vancouver Island Interclub Competition at Strathcona Gardens in Campbell River are as follows:

Samantha Ratzlaff, silver; Mallory Brooks, silver; Brooklyn Bourcier, silver; Arwyn Fretts, silver; Arianna Solowan, bronze; Ana Salome, bronze; Nola Behan, bronze; Tinsley Jones, bronze; and Irie Ladner, bronze.
