Powell River Community Foundation reveals grant recipients

$175,000 distributed to four local organizations through BC community prosperity fund

GRANT RECIPIENTS: Four organizations received cheques from the Powell River Community Foundation at a grant recipient presentation on Wednesday, November 20, at the Cranberry Seniors Centre.

Powell River Community Foundation (PRCF) president David Hodgins, along with PRCF board members, met at Cranberry Seniors Centre on Wednesday, November 20, to announce $175,000 in funding to support four organizations in the qathet region through the British Columbia government’s community prosperity fund. 

According to the PRCF website, the community prosperity fund is a $25 million investment from the province that advances poverty reduction and social inclusion.

The following projects received grant funding:

$24,103 was invested with Powell River Action Centre Society (Food Bank) to increase organizational capacity to address food poverty in the community.

$33,889 was invested with Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society to assist with operational costs as the organization transitions to its new location, allowing it to remain fully operational in support of children and youth in the community.

$52,008 was invested with qathet Community Justice Society to increase organizational capacity and case coordination.

$65,000 was invested with Sunset Homes Society to alleviate energy costs among seniors through installation of heat pumps in 12 units, providing efficient and effective heating and cooling throughout the year.

PRCF board members said funded recipients have an opportunity to implement the funding over up to three years and support operational expenses or project delivery.
