Powell River Villa failed to gain ground on Sooke Celtic and Nanaimo United in Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) standings last weekend. The two Vancouver Island-based teams are tied for eighth among the 10 Division 1 clubs, three points ahead of Powell River, but both have played one more game than Villa.
Villa travelled to Victoria to face Lakehill on November 16 and dropped a 4-2 decision at Braefoot Park. James Timothy and Thompson Nelson scored for Powell River. Lakehill is second in Division 1, eight points behind front-runners Vic West.
"We fell behind early, mostly with some self-inflicted mistakes and poor play, giving up four first half goals," said Villa manager Chris McDonough. "The guys were pretty frustrated at half and just wanted to come out and put in a better effort for the final 45 minutes.
"The second half was a complete flip as we took it to Lakehill, playing for long stretches in their end, creating numerous scoring chances and clawing back two goals. But unfortunately we fell short in the comeback against the number two team in the league."
Villa hosts Nanaimo at Timberlane Park on Saturday, November 23, and can climb into a tie with the visitors by collecting three points with a win. Game time is 1:30 pm.
