Powell River RCMP respond to assault and theft at cycle shop

Business owner allegedly bear-sprayed after catching suspect stealing an e-bike

At approximately 4:30 am on May 30, Powell River RCMP responded to an alarm at Suncoast Cycles on highway 101, south of Powell River. Upon arrival, police learned that the business owners had also been alerted to the alarm and interrupted a break and enter in progress.

The owner had confronted the suspect, who then allegedly sprayed the owner in the face with bear spray. The suspect allegedly fled the store with a stolen bike and ran south toward Reave Road.

The suspect was seen leaving the area in a station-wagon-type vehicle with a second person and a large Shepherd dog with puffy fur. The stolen bike is described as an orange, 2023, Giant Talon e-bike.

Powell River RCMP is asking everyone to keep an eye out for the bike and, if spotted, to immediately phone 911 or the RCMP at 604.485.6255.
