Powell River Fire Rescue responds to blaze in Cranberry

Flames damage home, all occupants escape

CONTROL GAINED: Powell River Fire Rescue firefighters responded to a call at Allen Avenue in Cranberry, where the structure was completely involved in flames.

At 7:38 am, June 18, Powell River Fire Rescue dispatch received a 911 call reporting a fire at Allen Avenue in Cranberry. Crews immediately responded and were updated en route that it was a structure fire, according to a media release from Powell River Fire Rescue.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a fully involved single-family dwelling. Fortunately, all occupants had escaped the home, according to the release.

Initial firefighting efforts were hampered by low manpower, but with the assistance of two additional engines and a full callback of career and part-time staff, totalling 19 personnel, crews were able to gain control of the fire.

One occupant was transported to the hospital with undetermined injuries, the release stated. Emergency social services is providing care for the other five residents of the home, including a large dog, according to the release.

RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, FortisBC, BC Hydro and emergency social services were all engaged in responding to this incident.
