After 46 years of service, Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) chief Dave Keiver is leaving his post.

According to a media release from qathet Regional District, Keiver's dedication and commitment to public safety have left an unforgettable mark on the south end community and entire region.

Throughout his tenure, Keiver has been a point of guidance for MVFD, promoting the values of service, bravery and selflessness, the release stated. His passion for firefighting and his tireless efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of his crew and residents have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, according to the release. Under his watch, MVFD has consistently upheld its commitment to saving lives and protecting property.

Reflecting on his remarkable journey, Keiver expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside dedicated firefighters and volunteers, stating: "It has been an honour and a privilege to serve our community for 46 years. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am grateful for the unwavering support of my colleagues, friends and family throughout this incredible journey. I am very proud of this fire department and am sure that it will continue to serve the community with distinction."

As Keiver embarks on a well-deserved retirement, qathet Regional District extends its heartfelt appreciation for his service and unwavering commitment to public safety, stated Electoral Area C director and regional board chair Clay Brander.

“While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of volunteer firefighters,” stated Brander.

MVFD is committed to ensuring a seamless transition and maintaining the highest standards of service excellence in Keiver's absence, the release stated. Deputy chief Bill Ashworth will step up to the role of acting fire chief beginning May 1, until a permanent replacement is determined.
