Hot weather, zucchini day and colourful skies in qathet region

August Perseid meteor showers peak later this week

Today, August 8, is National Sneak Some Zucchini onto Your Neighbour’s Porch Day. At this time of year, those who grow zucchini might start to wonder what to do with all the bounty, and giving some away to a neighbour might be an option.

According to cook and writer Katie Workman, grilling vegetables including zucchini over direct high heat is a great way to make them soft and sweet.

Weatherhood is predicting that by noon today, the qathet region temperature will be a comfortable 23 degrees Celsius and rise to 26 degrees later today. There is no precipitation in the forecast.

Perseid meteors started streaking through Earth’s atmosphere in mid-July and are predicted to peak in the mornings of August 11, 12 and 13.

According to EarthSky, the best time to watch for Perseids will be starting around midnight until dawn. Perseid meteors tend to strengthen in number as late night deepens under a dark sky with no moon.

Scientists at EarthSky describe the August Perseid meteor shower in the Northern Hemisphere as rich and steady, with colourful meteors that frequently leave persistent trains.
