Although the Weatherhood station is indicating temperatures dropping to well below zero this evening, there are no special weather warnings for the qathet region for today, Wednesday, February 5.
According to DriveBC webcams, Highway 101 from Lund to sḵelhp (Saltery Bay) is clear. However, with the temperature warming this afternoon to one degree Celsius, and then dropping to minus three by 6 pm, and the possibility of flurries, black ice may form on the roads, creating slippery road conditions.
Currently the temperature is minus two degrees Celsius, but feels like minus seven due to the wind blowing at 13 kilometres per hour. The average daytime temperature for the rest of the week and into the weekend is between one and two degrees, dropping below zero into the evening.
By Monday, February 10, the overnight temperature is forecast to be minus 11 degrees and on Tuesday, February 11, minus 14 degrees at night.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the province of BC is experiencing below average temperatures for February compared to the 30 months of February between 1991 and 2020.
