The Weatherhood station located above the Peak office on Marine Avenue is indicating winds up to 29 kilometres an hour in town today, Thursday, September 26.
An intense low pressure system will bring strong winds to the BC Coast today, according to a warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The qathet region, including skelp to Lund, will experience high winds up to 90 kilometres an hour in some areas, this afternoon and into the evening.
"A deep, low pressure system will cross the BC offshore waters today, reaching the coast overnight and then proceeding to track inland during the day on Friday. Very strong, gusty southeasterly winds will develop this afternoon and continue into the evening. Winds will weaken as the low passes near midnight."
ECCC is warning that damage may occur and loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
"High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches."
Those travelling today on BC Ferries can monitor its website for any possible ferry delays. As of 9:30 am, Thursday, September 26, no service notices have been issued.
