Mild start to fall season in the qathet region

Migrating birds can be seen on lakes and waterways

Fall is officially upon the qathet region and it has been a damp but mild start to the season.

The Weatherhood forecast for Wednesday, September 25, sees the temperature rise to 14 degrees Celsius, with nine millimetres of precipitation accumulating. Temperatures will drop to 10 degrees tonight.

Thursday to Friday there will be rain showers throughout the day with sunny breaks in the afternoon, with daytime temperatures between 11 degrees and 15 degrees. Saturday, September 28, the sun is back with some cloud, but zero precipitation in the forecast for that day. Sunday, September 29, the temperature will be a little cooler at 12 degrees in the daytime with a slight chance of showers. Monday the weather is forecast at a high of 16 degrees, carrying on into Tuesday, October 1.

According to Nature Trust British Columbia, British Columbia lies in the path of the Pacific Flyway, a major migratory route extending from Alaska to Patagonia, spanning 15,000 kilometres.

Bird lovers in qathet may see trumpeter swans, snow geese and plenty of duck species returning to the region during the fall migration. Raptors such as hawks, turkey vultures, eagles, kestrels and harriers can also be seen congregating, due to the upcoming salmon run.
