Election nominations finalized for Sunshine Coast and across BC

A final list of candidates for the 2024 provincial general election is now available on the Elections BC website, according to an Elections BC media release.

Candidate nominations closed at 1 pm on September 28, marking the end of the period in which eligible individuals could apply to be a candidate in the 43rd BC general election. There are 323 candidates in the province with 269 representing seven political parties, and 54 candidates running as independent or unaffiliated.

There are 40 independent candidates running in the October 19 election, a marked increase from previous election years.

Both the Conservative Party (BC) and BC NDP have 93 candidates and the BC Green Party has 69 candidates. There are also 14 unaffiliated candidates.

According to the media release: Candidates who have registered as independent will appear on the ballot with the word independent listed next to their name. Candidates who have not been endorsed by a party or registered as independent will appear on the ballot with just their name. They are categorized as unaffiliated.

General election day is October 19. Early voting and mail-in has now begun at Powell River Town Centre mall. The main Elections BC office is located near the CIBC entrance at 41-7100 Alberni Street.

This will be the 43rd provincial general election. Eligible voters can also cast their ballot at Powell River River Recreation Complex at 5001 Joyce Avenue, Thursday to Sunday, October 10 to 13, and Tuesday to Wednesday, October 15 to 16.
