Four candidates are campaigning to represent the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding as MLA. General election day is October 19.

Chris Moore (Conservative Party of BC), Christopher Hergesheimer (Green Party of BC), and Randene Neill (BC NDP) and Greg Reid (Independent) were asked the following question:

What do you believe is the most important issue in the riding and how would you work to address it if your party forms government?

Here is the response from Chris Moore (Conservative Party):

Affordability is a primary problem for residents of the Powell River-Sunshine Coast community. The NDP is responsible for BC’s poor economic situation and failure must not be rewarded. We must balance the need for development while protecting our natural environment.

Housing, groceries and transportation costs are historically high, while public safety is the lowest ever. We cannot tax and spend and borrow our way to prosperity. A Conservative government will eliminate the carbon tax, which adds to the cost of everything.

Fiscal discipline is a must, and I will not vote for reckless spending but for a balanced budget as soon as practically possible, with boosts to health care operations and capital spending.

The Rustad Rebate provides renters and homeowners exemptions in housing costs from the provincial income tax.

We will stand up for seniors and boost tax credits for family caregivers, expand respite care to help aging in place, increase funding for home support services and eliminate hospice care fees, provide financial assistance for eyeglasses, mobility aids and hearing aids to promote independence, and increase support for seniors with dementia through person-centered care, and strengthen support of the Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program.

We will double the Home Renovation Tax Credit for seniors and persons with disabilities to help them stay in the homes they love.

I believe in accountability, so continued community engagement is my promise.
