Crime unit deployed due to suspicious death on Texada Island

Investigators believe incident is isolated and there is no ongoing risk to community safety.

SUSPICIOUS DEATH: Suspicious death on Texada Island prompts Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit deployment.

Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has been deployed to assist with a homicide investigation on Texada Island, according to a Powell River/VIIMCU RCMP media release today, September 3.

In the early morning hours of September 2, Texada Island RCMP responded to a call for service at a residence in the 5100 block of Para Street on Texada. Responding officers located a deceased 81-year-old man believed to be a victim of a homicide.

VIIMCU was contacted and has since taken conduct of the investigation, which remains in its early stages. Investigators believe it is an isolated incident and there is no risk to community safety.

The file remains under investigation and further details cannot be shared at this time, according to the release. VIIMCU is asking anyone who may have information about this incident to call the information line at 250.380.6211.
