As part of an International Women's Day feature, the Peak asked qathet region entrepreneurs about their journeys in business. Here are the responses from Chesney Martinig (Earl and Friends Dog Hikes):
What advice do you have for aspiring women entrepreneurs or professionals?
Growth doesn’t happen when you’re comfortable. It’s terrifying to take the plunge into doing something new, but if it’s coming from a place of love, it never feels like work.
What inspired you to pursue a career in your industry?
I really need to thank my dog, Earl, for inspiring me to start my business. I felt so guilty leaving him home alone all the time when I went to work. I saw an opportunity to not only let me hang out with him all day, but everyone else’s dogs as well!
How has your journey shaped your approach to business?
My journey exploring my hometown of Powell River is what shaped and inspired my business to start. We live in such a beautiful place with so many ways and options to enjoy it. I wanted to find a way to profit from that as a profession.
My love for this town and dogs created the most fortunate career I never thought would be possible. I am so grateful every day for my opportunities of adventure and support from this community.
