As part of an International Women's Day (March 8) feature, the Peak asked qathet region entrepreneurs about their journeys in business. Here are the responses from Shannon Formby (Powell River Hearing):
What advice do you have for aspiring women entrepreneurs or professionals?
Do your research and know your market. Take your time and develop a solid business plan, especially if you need to borrow funds from a financial institution to get started.
What inspired you to pursue a career in your industry?
I knew Powell River needed an independently owned and operated hearing clinic because the two franchisee clinics at the time could not retain local clinicians, so I seized the opportunity to provide a valuable service in my community by opening my own clinic.
How has your journey shaped your approach to business?
It is very important to stay on top of the day-to-day business matters while working as a full-time clinician, so investing in my staff is a priority. I am fortunate to have Cathie Gaspard and Katie Marciniak working alongside me, which has contributed to my success.
