qathet Film Society youth camp wraps four days of movie making

Screening of short films held at Patricia Theatre in Townsite

qathet Film Society executive director Gary Shilling and the society’s education director Peg Campbell welcomed friends, family and the public to a screening of student-made films on Friday, August 11, at the Patricia Theatre in Townsite.

The camp was organized in collaboration with Tony Papa, the director of Powell River Digital Film School. Each student group worked with a professional mentor, learning camera operation, sound, lighting, story-telling and collaboration.

According to the qathet Film Society website: The theme for the 2023 film camp is “Idols and Influencers,” a topic that affects our youth and is something that they have a lot to say about, as well as being a current phenomenon they can engage in and look at critically in their short films.
