BC Family Day on Monday, February 12, marks the first long weekend of 2018. Family Day is a celebration of family life, and a reminder of the importance of spending time with your loved ones.
One goal of Family Day is to get out and take part in activities and be active with the whole family, and what better way is there to celebrate than by taking part in an afternoon of free and fun activities at Powell River Recreation Complex?
“With life as busy as it is some days, it’s not always easy to get the family together for quality time,” says community recreation program coordinator Alexander Craig. “Family Day is there to make sure you take that extra time to enjoy activities with your loved ones.”
The Monday statutory holiday will feature a full afternoon of free activities at the complex from 1-4 pm; a dip in the swimming pool, including the ever-famous sea snake, free family skating and skate rentals, including shinny hockey on a designated area, and free access to the fitness centre. The free activities are co-sponsored by City of Powell River and CUPE 798.
Powell River Kings also play versus Alberni Valley Bulldogs that day and the game, which begins at 2 pm, will also feature free admission for Family Day.
“We want to make the complex as available and open as possible for the public to use so everyone can enjoy their Family Day to the fullest,” says Craig.
Craig says he encourages families to use the Millennium Park trails near the complex during the day and hints that a certain famous gnome named Norman may be hiding in the trails for one lucky family to claim a special prize.
Safeway has donated Family Day cupcakes for everyone to enjoy on their way into the complex, and there will be draws to win different family-themed gift baskets throughout the day.
