As we approach the end of the year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the hard work and dedication shown by my fellow directors, qathet Regional District staff, and the many volunteers supporting our four volunteer fire departments and our committees, commissions and working groups. Your commitment to supporting our community has been the cornerstone of our collective success.
Bidding farewell to this year, let’s enjoy the memories we’ve created and anticipate the possibilities awaiting us in the coming year. The Regional Board has now completed one year in our roles and we have adopted a new strategic plan that centres on prioritizing the quality of life for everyone in our region. The groundwork laid this year sets the stage for even greater accomplishments in the coming year.
Major projects coming in 2024 include the completion of the Resource Recovery Centre and the beginning of work on a new Northside Recreation Centre in Lund. Staff will continue working on objectives laid out in multi-year strategies including the Asset Management Strategy, Communications and Engagement Strategy, and the Solid Waste Management Plan. If you would like to learn more about these reports and studies, they are available for viewing at qathet.ca.
Throughout this season, let’s remember to appreciate the support and camaraderie we’ve experienced and reflect on the moments that have shaped us. In the face of numerous challenges, including cost of living increases and housing shortages, our collective strength has been truly remarkable.
Let’s look ahead to the New Year with optimism and renewed vigour - may it bring prosperity, opportunities for growth and a deeper sense of unity and connection within our community. Take the time to enjoy the season with loved ones as you anticipate the promising year ahead, ripe with opportunity.
Happy holidays!
