Letters: Provide porta potties, hydration stations for those waiting for BC Ferries

'Before there is a serious and tragic event where a person suffers heat stroke or has to resort to public defecation, porta potties and hydration stations need to be added at easily accessible intervals starting just below the Highway 99 overpass.'

Editor:

A year ago, on a very hot day, I had to wait hours to get aboard the ferry home to Langdale from Horseshoe Bay. I saw people – families with children and older folks in obvious distress and discomfort – from the heat.

There were no washrooms of water available where these people were stuck waiting... Concerned about the health and welfare of those around me, I eventually succeeded in reaching someone at BC Ferries, to whom I communicated my concerns. To date – as of yesterday – the situation is no different; once again I was stuck waiting just below Eagleridge Drive, far from the ticket booths, where there are no washroom facilities or water.

Before there is a serious and tragic event where a person suffers heat stroke or has to resort to public defecation, porta potties and hydration stations need to be added at easily accessible intervals starting just below the Highway 99 overpass.
