Powell River Kings played their first of two games at the BC Hockey League (BCHL) Showcase in Chilliwack on Tuesday, October 18.
The event takes place over four days and features all 18 BCHL teams playing two regular-season games in the same location. It acts as a hub for NHL scouts and NCAA Division I coaches to evaluate the talent the league has to offer.
The game against West Kelowna Warriors started well for the Kings, with Parker Lalonde converting on a power play early in the first period for a 1-0 lead. Casey Aman and Karter McNarland picked up assists on the play.
Warriors responded with their own power play goal three minutes later to tie the game at one, then took over in the second period with a trio of goals, including one while shorthanded, to lead 4-1 after 40 minutes.
West Kelowna added an insurance marker in period three to close out the scoring and make the final 5-1. Powell River was outshot 35-28.
Kings face Salmon Arm at 10 am on October 19, also at Chilliwack Coliseum.
