Comeback falls short for Powell River U18 Kings

Cowichan Valley builds three-goal lead and hangs on for win at Hap Parker Arena

Powell River U18 Kings hosted Cowichan Valley at Hap Parker Arena for an afternoon game on Sunday, October 16, twenty-four hours after defeating the visiting Campbell River Tyees 5-2.

Jeremy Pukesh opened the scoring for the home team in the first period, but the visitors equalized two minutes before intermission to tie the game at one.

Despite Powell River dominating on the shot clock (50-26 overall), Cowichan took over in the second period, scoring a trio of goals to lead 4-1.

Kings battled back over the final 20 minutes, tilting the ice and applying constant pressure in the offensive zone.

Four minutes into the third period, Braedyn Louie cut the lead to 4-2 with a quick shot from the faceoff dot to the left of the Cowichan goaltender. Pukesh brought the home team to within a goal with seven minutes remaining, but the visitors responded with the eventual game winner, against the flow of play, four minutes later.

With goaltender Leo Brosseau pulled in favour of an extra attacker and 1:13 left on the clock, Kings’ forward Liam Carroll tipped in a Louie shot to make it 5-4, which was as far as the comeback attempt would go.

Powell River hosts Comox at Hap Parker Arena on Sunday, October 23. Game time is 1:15 pm.
