VIDEO: Powell River U18 Kings cruise to win over Kerry Park

Minor hockey team dominates early at home en route to winning 7-3 ; two other local teams post wins

Tristan Hawkins opened the scoring for Powell River U18 Kings versus Kerry Park Islanders at Hap Parker Arena on Saturday, October 28. The power play marker set the stage for a dominant first period, where the home team carried the majority of play. Jaxon Peters doubled the lead before the period ended.

Jeremy Pukesh, Paxton Schrieber and Nathan Gruntman staked Powell River to a 5-0 second period lead before Kerry Park responded with a goal seven seconds prior to intermission. Schrieber added his second of the day early in the third period. After the Islanders cut the lead to 6-3, Ben Belyea added an insurance goal in the final minute of play for the home team.

Tentyn Takeda, Pukesh and Evan Piniewski set up a pair of goals for the Kings. Tyler Durant, Schreiber, Beau Jameson Gagne and Hawkins recorded one assist each. Nicholas Baggaley was the winning goaltender.

U15
In other minor hockey action, Powell River U15 Queens hosted Tri-Port at Hap Parker Arena, falling short in a 6-2 loss. Luce Liefsoens and Sienna Keays scored for the Queens, who trailed 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 following two periods of play.

U13
Reid Stekman scored twice and Pearson Coburn added the game-winning goal in Powell River U13 Kings 3-2 over Juan de Fuca in Colwood on October 28. Grayden Kendrick assisted on both Stekman goals. Cameron Milne and Zach Labree had one assist each.

On October 29, the U13 squad fell 6-4 in Nanaimo. Stekman, Coburn, Milne and Kendrick scored for the visitors.

U11
Ayla Ciarniello, Molly Culos and Hannah Ollson, who also had an assist, scored for Powell River U11 Queens in a 3-0 win over Comox Valley on the rink at Powell River Recreation Complex.
