Vancouver Island Soccer League's regular season games were put on hold in early February as VISL Division 1 and 2 teams were scheduled to open Jackson Cup play. Games were then delayed multiple weeks due to weather conditions (snow) on Vancouver Island soccer fields.
Villa finally faced Vic West’s VISL Division 2 squad on February 15 in Victoria and were eliminated from the competition. The Division 2 squad posted an upset with a 3-1 win.
After the hosts opened the scoring in the seventh minute, Jerod Timothy scored the only goal for Powell River in the 15th minute to tie the game 1-1. Vic West scored twice more before halftime to advance to the next round.
The Jackson Cup is VISL’s version of the FA Cup in England and has been contested since 1915. Villa last won the trophy in 1991, and also hoisted the cup 1995, 1997 and 2000.
VISL Division 1 regular season play resumes this weekend with Bays United hosting Villa on Saturday, February 22.
