Powell River Villa came up one goal short on Saturday, November 9. In a battle for sole possession of ninth place in Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) Division 1 standings, Sooke Celtic edged Villa 2-1.
"After going down 2-0 in the second half we responded with a goal from Niko Cristante on a corner kick to put us within a goal," said Villa manager Chris McDonough.
Villa fought hard until the end to get an equalizer, added McDonough, including during an injury time goal-mouth scramble in Sooke’s six yard box.
"Unfortunately we came up just short." said McDonough. "It was an exciting, hard-fought game. Special thanks to the Villa supporters who travelled down to Sooke; they made it a great atmosphere."
Sooke moved three points ahead of Powell River with the win, but Villa holds a game in hand.
Villa travels to Victoria for a match against Lakehill on November 16.
