Powell River U15 Kings swept a pair of games versus Cowichan Valley U15 Capitals at Hap Parker Arena last weekend.
Lucas Gruntman led the way offensively with a hat-trick, while James Barrows, Carter McDowell, Gabriel Caldarone, Connal Miller and Kooper Kozmeniuk scored one goal each in an 8-3 win on January 13. Both Jackson Peters and Jack Webber recorded a pair of assists. Weston Kolba, Kozmeniuk and Gruntman had one helper each.
Powell River led 3-0 after the first period and 4-3 heading to the final frame, when four more goals secured the win.
U15 Kings also won handily the next day, which started off with a four-goal first period. Peters scored a trio of goals, Cooper Lawry and Gruntman had one each, and Webber scored twice in the 7-2 win. Goals were set up by Gruntman (two), Miller and Lucas Vizzutti.
The two wins clinched the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association Division 2 league title and banner for the Kings, who haven’t lost a league or a tournament game all season.
The team is at home again this weekend with games versus Peninsula Eagles on Saturday, January 20 (3:30 pm) and Sunday, January 21 (8:15 am) at Powell River Recreation Complex.
