Zander Stewart opened the scoring for Powell River Kings on Saturday, January 13, at Hap Parker Arena, but it was the lone bright spot in a loss to Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Alberni responded with a pair of goals before the first intermission, one more in the second period and two in the final frame en route to a 5-1 win. Anthony Lucarelli and Christian Maro set up Stewart's goal, which came on a power play 2:20 after the opening faceoff.

Goaltender Owen Crudale made 24 saves for the Kings, who outshot the Bulldogs 31-29. Attendance was 1,036.

Alberni also won the first game of a weekend doubleheader between the two BC Hockey League (BCHL) clubs on January 12.

Kings continue a home stand by hosting Nanaimo Clippers on Friday, January 19 (7 pm), and Saturday, January 20 (5 pm).
