Powell River Regals forward Chad Niddery hovers over the Lake Cowichan Appollos goaltender hoping for a loose puck during a senior AA men’s hockey game at Hap Parker Arena on November 15, 2024. The Appollos, who won that game 7-6 in overtime, return to Powell River this weekend for game one of the McCallum Cup.

Playoff hockey is starting early at Hap Parker Arena. Powell River Regals host game one of a three-team McCallum Cup competition on Saturday, January 11, to determine the west coast senior hockey championship for 2025.

Lake Cowichan Appollos provide the opposition to open the series. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 5 pm. The two teams have met on three occasions so far this season with the Appollos winning twice in overtime (4-3 in Lake Cowichan and 7-6 in Powell River) and the Regals winning 7-4 at home.

Regals travel to Nanaimo to face the Steelmen in game two on February 1, visit Lake Cowichan on February 15 for game four, and host Nanaimo in game five on February 22.

Game three (Lake Cowichan at Nanaimo) takes place February 9. The sixth and final game of the series features the Appollos and Steelmen in Lake Cowichan on February 28.

Two points will be awarded for a win, one point for an overtime loss and one point in the case of a tie (no shootouts).

The team with the most points after game six will be awarded the trophy.
