After spending parts of four seasons playing in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) for Comox Valley Glacier Kings and Oceanside Generals, Brad Cimaglia is suiting up for his hometown Powell River Regals for a second season.
Regals will host Coy Cup 2024, competed for by senior AA teams in BC, with three regional winners joining the home team at the tournament in March.
Cimaglia graduated from Powell River Minor Hockey Association before embarking on his junior endeavour, which led to his career highlight: playing in the VIJHL finals with Oceanside in 2022. The Generals fell in six games to evenual champion Peninsula Panthers.
Prior to junior, Cimaglia was a member of the Powell River U18 Kings’ provincial championship squad in 2017/2018. His favourite player to watch growing up was former NHLer Shea Weber, and the person he credits most for influencing his development as a player was minor hockey coach Scott Mastrodonato.
Cimaglia works as a landscaper and is also involved with the Steamplant Beer League.
Regals will continue a best-of-five McCallum Cup West Coast Senior Hockey championship series with Nanaimo Steelmen on March 8 and 9 at Hap Parker Arena. Nanaimo leads the series 1-0. Both games start at 7:30 pm.
Coy Cup tickets are available at the Peak, TAWS and Royal LePage-Powell River.
