Powell River Rusty Nuts Oldtimers Hockey Club hosted to Peninsula Rusty Cranks on Monday, January 22, in what has become a friendly annual tradition between the two teams. It was a hard fought match at Hap Parker Arena with the home team prevailing by a 8-2 score.

Rusty Nuts stuck to their philosophy of defence first, and rode the strong goaltending of Grant Wood and a balanced offensive attack to skate to victory "in front of a raucous home crowd of 11," according to player/manager Rob Chalmers.

Lighting the lamp twice for the home side were Darryl Gurney and Rob Crookshank, with singles going to Rob Neidermeyer, Don Jewra, Norm Hanley and Savary Island's own Travis Ontkean.

In a post game ceremony, Roger Hodgins was presented with a beautiful trophy as the Rusty Nut player of the game, recognizing his continued commitment to the 200-foot game. Rusty Cranks will be looking to avenge the loss in February as the Nuts travel to Sechelt for the second half of the home-and-home series.
