CONSTANT ACTION: Powell River Otago Rugby Club will have three Vancouver Island teams travelling here to participate in a 10-aside rugby tournament on April 12 at Cranberry Field.

Powell River Otago Rugby Club will be hosting a 10-a-side rugby tournament on April 12 with three out of town teams coming.

Otago spokesperson Jack Beardmore said teams from Cowichan, the Rising Tide and Comox will be travelling here. The tournament starts at noon and goes to 4 pm.

The 10-a-side brand of rugby features 15-minute halves and is a more open game than traditional 15-a-side rugby, said Beardmore. He said each team will play three games in the tournament, so there will be constant rugby action at Cranberry Field on the day of the tournament.

“It’s a fun game and it’s exciting,” said Beardmore.

For spectators at the field, there will be refreshments, burgers and smokies for sale.

Beardmore said each of the clubs hosts a 10-a-side tournament in the spring and in the fall.
