Ethan Riesterer’s goal at 3:12 of overtime lifted Powell River Kings to a 4-3 win over Coquitlam Express at Scotia Barn in Burnaby on April 24.
Kings led 2-1 after 20 minutes courtesy of goals from Caleb Parkhouse and Dylan Hewlett. Riesterer and Josh Kagan combined to set up Nolan Krogfoss for a power play marker midway through period two to put Powell River up 3-1, but Coquitlam pecked away at the lead, making it 3-2 before intermission and tying the game with a power play of their own at 10:13 of the third period, forcing overtime in the process.
Powell River outshot Coquitlam 41-27 overall, including 2-0 in the extra frame. Kings’ goalie Nick Peters made 24 saves during the afternoon BC Hockey League contest.
Dawson Milliken and Josh Wessels had first period assists for Powell River. Jacob Bonkowski recorded helpers on the game winner, as well as Hewlett’s goal late in the first period.
Kings return to action for another afternoon game April 25 when they face Surrey Eagles, also at Scotia Barn. Game time is 1 pm.
