Powell River Kings ride offensive outburst to decisive win over Coquitlam Express

Four-goal second period key to third straight win for hockey club

Karter McNarland and Parker Lalonde each scored twice and added assists to lead Powell River Kings to a 9-3 win over Coquitlam Express on Wednesday, October 27.

Kings responded to an early 2-0 deficit with six unanswered goals, including McNarland’s fifth of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season midway through the first period, followed by Caleb Parkhouse’s first of the year five minutes later.

Powell River dominated period two, outshooting the host club 21-9 and jumping out to a 6-2 lead courtesy of goals from Lalonde, Ethan Riesterer, McNarland and Mark D’Agostino.

The teams combined for four goals in the final frame, all coming on power play. Coquitlam halted the streak of consecutive Powell River goals at the 39 second mark, before a second barrage of goals from the visitors. Casey Aman and Nic Porchetta each converted with the extra attacker for their first goals of the campaign, as did Lalonde, who picked up his third of the season and earned second star honours behind McNarland. D’Agostino was named the third star of the game after scoring once and adding an assist.

Goaltender Zac Brice made 38 saves en route to the win, the third in a row for his team. Overall, Kings outshot the Express 44-41.

Powell River plays two more games away from home, at West Kelowna on October 29 (7 pm) and in Penticton the following night (6 pm), before returning to Hap Parker Arena. 

Powell River hosts Chilliwack for a pair of games on November 5 and 6. Faceoff for both is 7 pm.
