Powell River Kings announced on February 20 that defender Will Jones has committed to play NCAA hockey at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
“It’s pretty special for my family and I,” said Jones. “I went to campus with my family and it felt like home. The coaching staff is great, they bring energy every day and they are guys you want to play for. It’s a special place and I’m hoping I can continue that tradition when I get there.”
The Kings’ coaching staff knows this is a well-deserved opportunity for the player.
“We are really happy for Will; it’s something he’s worked towards all year,” said assistant coach Harry Mahesh. “He was lucky enough to go there earlier in the week and take a tour of the campus, and he really enjoyed it.
“It didn’t take him too long to commit there. The boys are excited for him and it’s definitely well earned.”
The eighteen-year-old from Brentwood Tennessee has played in 39 games in his first year with the Kings, scoring three goals and adding 18 assists.
“I can’t thank everyone enough around me who’s helped me get to this point,” said Jones. “The work is just beginning so I’m very proud and looking forward to continuing playing and playing well.”
