Powell River Kings have traded for former Surrey Eagles forward Alex Sandhu in exchange for future considerations.
The 17 year old from Delta is in his rookie BC Hockey League (BCHL) campaign. He played in 10 games for the Eagles prior to the trade, collecting one goal and an assist.
Before joining the junior ranks, Sandhu played at Delta Hockey Academy. In 33 games last year, he scored 23 goals and added 25 assists.
The Kings organization knows its new player well.
“Alex was an affiliate with us last season but we were unable to get him into any games,” stated general manager Chad van Diemen, in a media release. “We are very familiar with him and are confident he can be a very good player in the BCHL.”
With only four wins through the first 16 games of the 2022/2023 season, management is hoping Sandhu will be part of the solution for this season, and the future.
“Obviously we have had a pretty frustrating start to our season and we feel some changes need to be made,” stated van Diemen. “The addition of a solid 2005 forward is something we’ve been discussing as a staff for a while now and when this opportunity came up with Surrey, we felt we had to act on it quickly. We look forward to seeing Alex in our lineup as soon as possible.”
Kings are on the road this weekend with a game in Salmon Arm on Friday, November 11 at 7 pm, then Saturday, November 12, in Chilliwack (6 pm). The next home game is November 18 versus Victoria Grizzlies.
