Powell River Kings have acquired 2004-born defender Zach Rizzo from the Chilliwack Chiefs in exchange for future considerations.
Rizzo, who is from Altanta, Georgia, is in the midst of his first BC Hockey League (BCHL) season. In 16 games for the Chiefs, he has scored one goal and added an assist.
Although his offensive numbers aren't high, Rizzo wasn't brought in to score goals, but to help contribute defensively and keep the puck out of the net, according to Kings' general manager Chad van Diemen.
"We wanted to add to our defensive group to be harder to play against," stated van Diemen. "Zach plays a heavy, physical game and that's something we were looking to add. We want to lower our overall goals against and we feel Zach is someone who can come in and immediately help with that."
Rizzo is expected to make his debut with the Kings this weekend, when the team plays road games in Coquitlam on Friday, November 17, and Chilliwack on Saturday, November 18.
