Overtime win earns Powell River Kings split on road trip

Powell River Kings' captain Anthony Lucarelli scored the overtime winner to lead his team over Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday, October 7.

Anthony Lucarelli’s goal 1:27 into overtime gave Powell River Kings a 2-1 win over Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan on Saturday, October 7.

Anthony Yu, who also assisted on Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero’s second period goal, set up the game winner.

Powell River goaltender Will Baker turned aside 43 of the 44 shots he faced to earn second star honours behind Lucarelli and ahead of Capitals’ defender Matteus Söderbom, who scored the lone goal for the home team in the second period to tie the game at one. Cowichan goalie Emerik Despatie made 27 saves.

Attendance for the BC Hockey League (BCHL) game at Cowichan Community Centre was 832. Kings fell 5-3 in Nanaimo the night before.

Powell River hosts Nanaimo for a pair of games at Hap Parker Arena this weekend. Clippers have a record of three wins, two losses and one overtime defeat. Kings have played two fewer games, having won twice in four outings.

Game times on Friday, October 13, and Saturday, October 14, are 7 pm.
