The BC Hockey League (BCHL) has announced its three stars for the first week of regular season action in the 2023/2024 regular season.
Powell River Kings’ defender Will Jones was named second star of the week, behind Victoria Grizzlies’ forward Chase Pirtle (first) and fellow defender Ty Brassinton of the Surrey Eagles.
Jones recorded four points in two games, helping the Kings earn their first win of the season on Saturday, September 30, 3-2 in a shootout over defending BCHL champion Penticton Vees. Jones assisted on both Kings’ goals in regulation, each coming on power plays.
The second-year BCHLer scored his first goal of the season the night before in a 5-4 loss to the Grizzlies. He added a power-play assist later in the game to finish with two points on the night.
Jones’ four points are tied for the most among Kings’ blueliners and just two back of the league lead among defenders.
Pirtle racked up five points over the weekend, while Brassington recorded three points for the unbeaten Eagles.
Kings defender Anthony Yu, who scored once and added three assists, was one of seven BCHL players to receive honourable mention.
