Powell River Kings’ goaltender Will Baker gets set to make one of his 18 saves during a BC Hockey League game at Hap Parker Arena on Friday, October 12. Kings fell 6-3 to Nanaimo Clippers.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, Nanaimo Clippers scored five straight goals en route to doubling Powell River Kings 6-3 at Hap Parker Arena on Friday, October 13.

Asher Wites set up Adam Mendelson’s first goal of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season 11:26 into the game, giving the home team a short-lived lead. The visiting Clippers replied two minutes later, and needed only another 33 seconds to go up 2-1, a lead they would never relinquish.

Nanaimo took control of the game with a trio of goals during a five-minute span in period two before Joonas Linnavuori scored for Powell River, cutting the deficit to 5-2 after 40 minutes.

The teams exchanged goals in the third period. Owen Thomas, who set up Linnavuori’s goal, scored for the Kings at 6:36, assisted by Alex Bosland, but the home team failed to come any closer and gave up the final goal of the game with 6:20 remaining on the clock.

Powell River outshot Nanaimo 33-25. Attendance was 924. The latest addition to the Kings' roster, Thomas Belzil, made his debut with the team.

A rematch is scheduled for tonight (October 14), also at Hap Parker Arena. Game time is 7 pm.
