Powell River Kings came back from deficits on two occasions versus Nanaimo Clippers on Friday, January 26, but ultimately fell 4-3 to the visitors from Vancouver Island.
Anthony Yu and Anthony Lucarelli scored for the Kings in the first period to erase a 2-0 Clippers’ lead. Adam Mendelson, Alex Sandhu, Wyatt Davis and Owen Thomas assisted on the goals.
After Nanaimo scored the only goal of the second period, Thomas Belzil set up Christian Maro’s ninth goal of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season early in the third period to knot the score at three goals apiece. But the Coastal Conference’s second place team had an answer, notching the game winner seven minutes later and hanging on for a one goal win.
Owen Crudale made 24 saves for the Kings, who outshot their opponents 30-28. Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 703.
The two teams meet again tonight (January 27), also at Hap Parker Arena. Game time is 5 pm.
