Horseshoe pitching season begins

Club hosts open house to attract players

Organizers of an open house hope the event will draw new players to fling horseshoes at Powell River Recreation Complex.

Powell River Horseshoe Pitching Club has started its new season with drop-in practices 9:30 am to 12:30 pm each Sunday, April through September. League plays begin 6:30 to 8:30 pm starting Thursday, May 1.

The club invites individuals and families to participate. “We welcome all ages, six to 96, to come and have some fun,” said club member Lorraine Hubick.

New players receive lots of help and guidance from seasoned members, and for those who like a challenge there are many competition days during the season. Competitions may involve out-of-town travel, but on special days, the club welcomes players from other areas of BC.

Pitching shoes are available and refreshments will be served at the open house. The event begins at 9:30 am on Sunday, April 27, at the complex. Membership is free for players aged 18 and younger, and full details about the club will be available on the day.
