Powell River Kings and Surrey Eagles faced off at Chiilwack Coliseum on Wednesday, October 16, in the second of two games at 2024 BC Hockey League Showcase event for each team.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Surrey opened the scoring at 8:29 of the second period and held the lead until Michael Mardula equalized for Powell River at the 11:02 mark. Surrey restored the one goal cushion just over two minutes later to lead 2-1 through 40 minutes of play.

The decisive, game-winning goal came during an Eagles power play early in period three. Kings pushed to get back in the game, outshooting the Eagles 11-3 in the final frame (and 31-28 overall) and eventually cut the deficit in half thanks to a goal by Brendan Giles, but only 33 seconds remained on the clock at the time. Kings were unable to tie the score with goaltender Vincent Lamberti on the bench in favour of an extra attacker as time expired.

Wyatt Davis, Niccolo Mansueto, Calvin Beard and Tommy Karmiris recorded assists for Powell River.

Kings travel to Vancouver Island this weekend for games in Victoria (October 19) and Port Alberni (October 20).
