Cowichan earns first win, keeps Powell River Kings winless

Special teams key to victory for Capitals

Powell River Kings played their first road game of the 2024/2025 BC Hockey League (BCHL) season in Duncan on Friday, September 27, and fell 8-2 to Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Thomas Belzil scored a power play goal in the first period for the Kings, who trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes and 5-1 heading into the third period. Four other chances with the extra skater were unsuccessful. Willem Terwoord had the other Kings’ goal, which came with just over a minute left in the game.

Powell River outshot Cowichan 49-38. The home team converted three of six power play opportunities into goals, and scored on a penalty shot. 

Attendance at Cowichan Community Centre was 1,799.

Kings face the Clippers in Nanaimo tonight (September 28). Game time at Frank Crane Arena is 7 pm.
