Powell River Kings hosted Victoria Grizzlies at Hap Parker Arena in Powell River Recreation Complex in the first game of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) regular season for both teams.

Grizzlies built a 5-2 lead through two periods on Friday, September 20, and added a sixth goal, the eventual game winner, 25 seconds into period three. Kings outshot the visitors by an 18-6 margin in the final frame and closed the gap to a single goal with tallies from Tre Peck, Max Jelavic and Marek Beaudoin. The home team pushed for the tying goal with their net empty in favour of an extra attacker but were unable to force overtime.

Christian Maro and Michael Mardula scored first and second period goals for the Kings. Maro also set up two goals and was named the game's first star, ahead of Victoria's Anderson Pirtle and Reegan Hiscock.
