Powell River Kings were hoping to start the month of November the same way they ended October, with a win.

After posting a 5-2 home win over Prince George on October 26, Powell River embarked on a two-game road trip to the Lower Mainland, with the first stop being Chilliwack Coliseum, the home of the Chiefs, who occupy the top spot in BC Hockey League (BCHL) Coastal Conference standings.

Kings entered the contest nine spots below their conference rivals, sitting 10th out of 10 teams and looking to make up ground on ninth place Nanaimo Clippers, who sat two points ahead in the standings.

The host Chiefs broke a scoreless tie at the 14:59 mark, then added a second goal at 16:11 to take a two-goal lead minutes before the first intermission.

Kings fell behind 3-0 early in period two before Wyatt Davis and Alex Loftgren combined to set up Michael Mardula’s third goal of the season on a power play at 12:59, cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into the third and final period.

The teams traded goals in the third period, with Chilliwack restoring its three-goal lead before Max Jelavic again brought Powell River within two with his second goal of the year, assisted by Brendan Giles. Any momentum was halted less than a minute later when the home team sealed a 5-2 win with its fifth even-strength goal of the night.

Vincent Lamberti made 40 saves for the Kings, who were outshot 45 to 18. Attendance was 1,586.
