Atoms persist to win on the road

McLaren scores two to clinch victory

In a game full of goals, Powell River Canadian Tire Kings defeated Oceanside 5-4 on Saturday, December 10 at Meeker Arena in Parksville.

Scoring opened by Powell River on the powerplay with a goal from Michael Behan on a shot from the point deflecting past Oceanside’s net minder.

Powell River scored again on the powerplay with a goal from Caleb Parkhouse assisted by Liam Schrieber. They made it 3-0 early in the second period before Oceanside pushed back with three unanswered goals to tie the game. Gabe Shipley had a great defensive play poking the puck away preventing Oceanside from getting a chance to take the lead.

It was late in the period when Jonah McLaren scored to put Powell River ahead again. Oceanside scored on a turnover to tie the game in the third but McLaren would score his second goal of the game which proved to be the game winner.

Cam Stevenson had a strong game in goal with some huge saves to get the win. Powell River will resume league play after the Christmas break on January 7 in Campbell River.
