Powell River Regals held their annual awards banquet this past weekend to honour individual performances and celebrate their first Allan Cup victory.

Jamie Barszczewski and Chad Vizzutti were the big winners. Each went home with two trophies.

Barszczewski won the closest scoring race in recent years by finishing two points ahead of Verne Kinley and three up on Rick McLaren. He also edged out McLaren and Scott Mastrodonato for the season-game-star award as he collected the most first, second and third star selections during the 1996/1997 regular season.

Vizzutti's 1.56 average, two shutouts and 14-3-2 record earned him most valuable player honours for the regular season. After going undefeated in post-season play, he was also named playoff MVP.

Mastrodonato was chosen as best defenceman for the second consecutive year and McLaren finished ahead of Don Gagne in rookie-of-the-year voting.

Team captain and 16-year veteran Mike Andrews was named unsung hero, John Vanderkemp was voted most popular player by the fans, and Lisanne English received the George Northey Award, which is emblematic of dedicated service to the Regals Hockey Club.
