Ruth was born in Comox, BC, to John and Margery Corrigall and grew up on the family farm on Denman Island. She met and married George Sulyma on Texada Island, where they raised their five children.
Ruth left Texada for the Parksville/Qualicum Beach area, where she worked as a cook for several years. She married Bob Greenaway and enjoyed many retirement years with him, which included a lot of travelling with their camper.
Ruth was an avid writer, at one time writing for the local Powell River paper, an amazing cook, loved playing games including hosting bridge parties, playing crib and bingo, and loved a good laugh. She belonged to the Order of the Ladies of the Royal Purple and helped found the Rock Island Players on Texada.
She is survived by daughters Deniece (Glen) and Deidre-Ann (Rob), son Danny, grandchildren Dawn (Dean), Danyea (Sam), Dahlila, Hayley, Rozanna, Duane, Morgan, Holly and Spencer, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ruth was predeceased by her son David, daughter Diane, grandson Jed, great-grandson Logan, brothers David and Alan, and husband Bob.
A small family gathering was held on Vancouver Island in late May to spread her ashes and say goodbye. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay, BC.
