It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Maureen Patricia Calvert of Powell River, on November 19, 2023, in her own home with her daughters Pat and Marion by her side.
Maureen was born in Abbotsford, BC, on January 26, 1937, to the late Marion and Bill Calvert, but lived most of her life in Powell River. As a young child she lived with her parents in a float cabin on Goat Lake. When she was school age, her parents moved to a hobby farm in Wildwood so she could attend school.
Maureen married the late Herb Keller in 1953 and together they went on to have four children. Later, she remarried Carlo Cecconi and had another son. She is survived by Pat, Greg (Deb), Stan (Tracie), Marion (Andrew) and Raman (Amanda), 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Later in life, Maureen completed a nursing program at Malaspina College in Nanaimo and enjoyed working as a licensed practical nurse for more than 30 years, first in Nanaimo and then Calgary. When she retired, she returned to Nanaimo to help care for her infirm mom. Then, she returned to her family home in Wildwood to look after her father, whose health was also failing. Maureen’s nursing skills enabled her to help both parents at the end of their lives.
Maureen was a hardworking woman who loved her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and took pride in keeping her home and yard immaculate. She felt a strong connection to Jehovah and loved being in service sharing her beliefs. She will be missed.
A service will be held for Maureen at 1 pm at the Kingdom Hall,
4946 Manson Avenue, on Saturday, December 9, followed
by a social gathering from 2 to 4 pm at Cranberry Seniors Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
