We are, sadly, announcing that Leo Carl Osterholm, 69, of Van Anda, BC, passed away on July 5, 2023, after a battle with preexisting medical conditions.
Leo was born on May 17, 1954, to Martin and Ritva Osterholm in Malartic, Quebec. After graduating in 1973 from Max Cameron Secondary School, Leo, like a lot of others in Powell River, worked at the mill for MacMillan Bloedel. From there he pursued careers in mining, construction and, finally, on the tugs before becoming disabled to the point he could no longer work safely.
Among Leo’s greatest passions was playing cribbage and as many would attest, he was good at it.
Leo was predeceased by his parents Martin and Ritva, and by his older brother Paul. He is survived by his older brother Glen; his sister-in-law Teresa; his nephew Curtis; his nieces Jenny, Amy and Rhea; his uncle Ilpo and aunt Eira Nyholm; his cousins Tony and Nina Nyholm; and by several very close friends including Mario Watson, Lee Schindler and Joe DePape.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the SPCA or any animal rescue organization of your choosing in his name.
There will be a memorial for Leo on July 29, 2023, at 2 pm at Stubberfield Funeral Home.
