Larry passed away peacefully at home after a remarkable effort to overcome the challenges that affected him after a stroke in 2021. He is survived by his devoted wife Milda; his mother May Ethel Misner; stepsons Jordan, John (Amy) Byng and family, and Dan (Laura) Byng and family; his brother Mart (Maple) Misner and family; his sister-in-law Barbara Bromley; and his best and lifelong friend Keith (Dawn) Coleman. He was predeceased by his father Perry Misner.

Larry was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia, spending his childhood and early adult years in the Annapolis Valley. After graduating from business college, Larry applied to and was accepted for training at the RCMP Depot in Regina. This marked the beginning of a remarkably accomplished 37-year career with the force, and led to his eventual appointment as staff sergeant of the Powell River detachment.

In his retirement, he took up a new career as a realtor, and truly enjoyed serving his clients. Eventually, he retired from that to spend his time travelling and enjoying life to the fullest with Milda.

In his professional life, Larry received well-earned commendations for his dedication and service to his country and its citizens, including the RCMP Queen’s Jubilee Award for outstanding community service. He found much joy in helping others and sharing his knowledge, which he accomplished through activities such as teaching self-defence and firearms safety courses. He was a former member of the local Rotary, former president of the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society, and served on the National Liaison Committee for Canadian Blood Services.

As an avid boater, Larry enjoyed many wonderful trips with Milda to places such as Princess Louisa Inlet and Desolation Sound. He also enjoyed road trips on his motorcycle. Larry loved golfing and the camaraderie he found through the sport, especially enjoying his time playing with the Hobbie's Hackers. He loved spending winters in the desert, and despite his challenges after the stroke, managed one last memorable trip there with Milda this spring.

Larry was a truly caring, compassionate and honourable man, and Milda and her family were privileged to have him in their lives these past 14 years.

You will be forever missed, Larry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Powell River Kiwanis Housing Society and Powell River Hospital Foundation. A celebration of life will be held in September, date to be announced.
